WHAT ARE THE SPARE VESSELS USED IN BYPASS SURGERY?

PROF. DR. HÜSEYİN OKUTAN

Replacement veins used in bypass surgery frequently consist of the breast artery within the rib cage, the artery in the arm, the artery of the stomach, the artery of the abdominal wall, and the veins in the legs. The value of the spare vessels used is determined by the time of being open or re-occluded after bypassing. Accordingly, the most valuable vessel is the breast artery in the rib cage, with a 10-year exposure rate of 95%, 85% of the artery from the arm and 60% of the veins in the legs. The veins to be used may vary depending on the age of the patient, the strength of the rib cage, diabetes and profession.
